What is a Domain

What does domain mean?

A domain name is, in actually, the name of your website. A domain name is where the internet users can access your website. Thru domain name we find and identify computers connected to the Internet. Computers use IP addresses, which is a series of numbers. However, it is difficult for humans to remember the stars of numbers. That is why, domain names were developed and used to identify units on the Internet instead of using IP address.

A domain name can be a combination of letters and numbers, and can be used in conjunction with various domain name extensions, such as.com, .net and more. Each domain name is unique. Two different websites can not have the same domain name.

Domain is the element of a DNS (Domain Name System) that indicates the IP address of a website or computer. When more than one computer shares a common part of the same IP address, then they are called in the same domain.
While the numbers for computers and software are very good, but people are not so good with numbers to rember, this is the reason that the domain name system was created.. It convert a long numeric IP address into alphanumeric strings that people can easily remember.People often go to  second-level domains, but in fact each website has two level of domain.
1. A second level domain
2. Top-level domain

For example, the website you are now on is good-habit.com. The part you probably identify as a domain is " good-habit "
But this is only ,first part ,the second level domain. Second part of domain, ".com" is known as top-level domain. There are so many other top-level domains, such as .org ,.store,.in  ,.pizza.All most big enterprises likes the top-level domain “.com”, there are virtually hundreds of different top-level domains available.
On the Internet, a domain contains a set of network addresses. It is organized into domain levels. The top level identifies geographic or objective similarities. The second level of any domain identifies a unique location within the top-level domain and, in fact, is equal to an IP address.
When referring to an internet address or the name of a domain or domain name is the location of a website. For example, the domain name "goodhabit.com" indicates the IP address "216.58.215.167", but it is usually easy to remember the name rather than the long string of numbers. A domain name can be up to sixty-three characters long.

As first domain by the Massachusetts computer company Symblix was registered as "symbolics.com"

on 15 March 1985 it was decided keeping domain name simple so that it would easy to remember. To register or view domain names, there are many companies but Godaddy and Network-Solutions,companies are big domain name registrars.
